David Campbell is fascinated by the parallels between tea and wine. Applying the concept of terroir to tea, Campbell believes that knowledge of a tea's origin and cultivation, craftsmanship and culture greatly enhance the tea drinking experience. And he should know. With over 25 years in the wine industry, Campbell mastered the language and the complexities of fine wine, from the vineyard to the table. The increasingly global nature of the industry took Campbell to Asia many times where he sold wine, yet sought out his favorite beverage: tea. Now he leads our sourcing team at Tillerman Tea.
Long a tea devotee, Campbell immersed himself in traditional Chinese culture and language. He spent five years seeking out Asia's top tea producers. Attending one of David Wong's Chinese tea classes, Campbell saw in Wong not only a teacher, but a fellow tea aficionado and an associate for his new venture, Tillerman Tea. Together, they aim to acculturate America to authentic Chinese tea and foster a modern appreciation of its traditional culture.
